Episode 8
Pain Stinks
September 27, 2022
In this episode, Lyndsay Soprano talks with her guest, Shannon Villanueva about a rare pain disorder she has, proctalgia fugax, which in her terms is a real and true pain in the ass!
Lyndsay starts off the episode by discussing how painfully challenging trying to get diagnosed with your pain can be. And how finding the right doctors THAT LISTEN and care is much harder than you would think. Our healthcare system continues to let us down!
Lyndsay and Shannon are little firecrackers to say the least! They have known each other since they were 15 and 16 years old having gone to high school together. The topic they are discussing is anal pain. They are not making light of the topic because of their personality types. They are bringing light TO the topic.
Shannon is an ultrasound technologist, not a technician. She has been working in the field for 12 years at hospitals, outpatient centers, OB/GYN, perinatologists, etc. Shannon speaks about how broad her field is and the type of patients she sees. She mentioned that her job isn’t just looking at little babies all the time. That she takes care of all demographics of people who a lot of times are in pain. That sometimes, at the end of her time with the patient it feels like a therapy session for her.
So now onto her little butthole and what she was finally diagnosed with proctalgia fugax (incredibly debilitating pain in the anus and surrounding areas). The pain feels like Charlie Horses but in your anus. Spasms and cramping keeps her up at night.
Shannon speaks about all of the routes she took over a 5-year span of time to help with the issue and finally got diagnosed a few months ago.
And she finally found a therapy that is working for her and her husband for that matter and it’s called Pelvic Floor Therapy.
She has been having great success with her sessions!
Let’s get to the heart of how to heal. With you by my side.
